My search for the perfect first car continues, and this week Audi France trusted me with something a little bigger than expected: the Audi A6 Avant.

Not exactly the typical “first car” people imagine, but that’s kind of the fun of this series, trying everything, even the unexpected.

First Impressions

This version is the diesel model, which is something to keep in mind when you live in Paris (hello, future city restrictions). But even before getting into the practicalities, the A6 Avant makes a strong first impression.

It’s sleek, modern, and surprisingly sporty for a car of its size. It has that understated Audi confidence, everything looking effortlessly sharp.

Inside the A6 Avant

Step inside and the first thing you notice is the tech. There are 3 screens, yes, three:

  • one for the driver

  • one for the center console

  • and one just for the passenger

That passenger screen even turns into a privacy display when you’re driving, so you don’t get distracted. It’s such a small but thoughtful detail.

Then there’s the ambient lighting, which lets you shift the mood onboard in a way that instantly makes the cabin feel more personal.

And don’t get me started on the panoramic blackout roof, it’s dramatic, cool, and makes the car feel even more spacious.

The overall vibe is premium, futuristic, and very Audi, but without feeling cold or overly serious.

The Numbers

For those who love the data:

  • 204 horsepower

  • 0–100 km/h in 7 seconds

  • Top speed: 241 km/h

It’s quick, with the kind of power that feels smooth rather than showy.

Time to Drive

Specs are one thing, but the real question is always how the car feels once you’re actually on the move.

The A6 Avant drives with a calm, planted confidence. It’s big, yes, but not clumsy. It feels luxurious without being intimidating.

But is it a realistic first car? Probably not for most people, especially with a starting price around €74,000.

Still, this journey isn’t just about practicality. It’s about figuring out what kind of car makes me excited to drive, what I value, and what surprises me along the way.

So while the Audi A6 Avant may not be “the one,” it definitely set the bar in ways I didn’t expect.

What do you think? Is the A6 Avant too much for a first car, or is it secretly the perfect one?
